About JOMO

JOMO was established in response to the current ethical, epistemological and institutional crisis of traditional osteopathy. Osteopathy has lost its soul as it was trying to gain acceptance in the medical community. The task of JOMO is to constitute the osteopathic, experiential base while establishing the sound framework of its tissue-based manual treatment in the context of a bio-mechanical theory of health and disease.

1st Plague: Motion is function

2nd Plague: We feel structure

3rd Plague: The body is a unit

4th Plague: Self-healing dominates

5th Plague: The artery rules

6th Plague: The cranium is "like"…

7th Plague: The organs are "like"…

Breaking the Seven Seals

Overturning Plague 1: Motion is function
L
ess motion might be more function; more often than not, function is expressed as stability!

Overturning Plague 2: We feel structure
Structure means how substance is organized. What we actually
feel is form and states of tissue activity.

Overturning Plague 3: The body is a unit
No, the body is organized toward the world as outer physiology; regulation occurs at the periphery, in a dynamic state where embedded physiology exchanges between inner and outer worlds.

Overturning Plague 4: Self-healing dominates
The human body and soul harbors both constructive and destructive processes. On one hand, healing emerges from the struggle between creative and destructive forces. On the other hand, panic and splitting dominate the early stages of development. In the therapeutic process, we are dealing with self-healing AND self-destructive forces.

Overturning Plague 5: The artery rules
The only thing the artery rules is itself. All places where treatment really matters - capillaries, alveoli, and mucosa - are locally controlled, mainly by local auto-regulation and concentration differences. The periphery rules, not the center, not the artery.

Overturning Plague 6: The cranium is "like"…
The cranium is not "like" a breathing mechanism. Developing therapeutic approaches for the cranium starts with palpable, mechanical activity of the tissues of the cranium itself.

Overturning Plague 7: The organs are "like"…
The organs are the organs are the organs. They are not "like" something else, and definitely not like joints. Getting to know the characters and activities of the different organs is the first step in developing a therapeutic approach.

Only when these plagues are purged can osteopathy walk in truth: engaging the living body as it reveals itself, not as idols of doctrine have decreed.

Our mission:
Overcoming the Seven Plagues of Osteopathy

The SEVEN PLAGUES have haunted Osteopathy since its beginnings. By now they are written into its genetic code. We can only change our destiny if we change the code and embody osteopathy without these seven plagues:
